Appropriate Technologies Research, Development & Promotion Centre.
The Council has established an Appropriate Technologies Research, Development & Promotion Centre [ATC] at
Govt. Polytechnic Sunder Nagar in 1995 for the development
and propagation of appropriate technologies in the state.

ATC has propagated a number of technologies for hilly areas like water mills (gharats),
hydrams, ferro cement, low cost housing, earth quake resistance & solar passive housing.
The Centre has done commendable work in popularising green houses in Himachal Pradesh. So far more than
300 green houses have been installed by the Centre. The Centre has
facilities for training. Farmers use these green houses for growing nursery and vegetables even during winters.

at ATC, Sunder Nagar in collaboration with HUDCO to promote low cost & environment friendly building technologies.

National Research & Technology Consortium
The Council has established an autonomous organisation, National Research & Technology Consortium [NRTC] at Parwanoo in March 1995 for providing technological support to industries in Himachal Pradesh and to train technical man power in industrial R&D. NRTC has since been contributing significantly by providing scientific & technological inputs to the industry in HP besides providing training to the engineering students.

Rooftop Rain Water Harvesting Technology |

The Council constructed 100 rooftop rain harvesting structures using ferro-cement technology in the state on demonstration basis. It conducted technical review and prepared a document on the designs of ferro-cement technology through an expert team supported by UNICEF. The Council has organised trainings for
Engineers, Masons and NGO's. The Council also provides technical assistance for installing roof top rain water harvesting structures.

The Council has assisted IPH Department in identification of ground water potential sites for installation of handpumps. Trainings and demonstration on maintenance of handpumps has been organised. The Council provides consultancy on
ground water exploration.

Use of Bio-fertilizer Prolonged use of synthetic nutrients cause irreparable damage to the soil health. Council initiated training programmes to popularise the use of bio-fertlizers among the farmers of the state.

Use of Pine-needles and Lantana as a Fuel
Lantana an obnoxious weed is growing abundantly in the state and pine-needles are available in bulk in the many districts which cause forest fire during dry weather. Council is trying to propagate the integrated use of these bio-mass by converting them into briquettes as well as fuel in special designed stoves.
